Alternatives Dundee Youth

Alternatives Dundee Youth began by offering support in the form of sex and relationships education. However, focus group discussions revealed that young people were not making poor choices out of lack of information or education but because of a lack of self awareness, low self esteem and unresolved emotions. The focus of our youth support is;

  • improved self-esteem
  • improved decision making skills
  • the development of resilience

What Do We Do?

The groups we provide are listed below.

I’m The Girl I Want to Be

Unique Space

One-to-one listening/ mentoring will be offered to each young person participating in our ‘I’m the Girl I want to be’ or Unique Space groups.

We also provide;

1-to-1 Listening support

Bespoke Workshops

All of the youth support team have undergone a recruitment process including PVG screening and references and basic online safeguarding training. They are regularly supervised and all are currently working towards the COSCA certificate in counselling skills. This informs a relational, person centred approach and enables them to facilitate effective listening by creating an accepting, non-judgemental, confidential and safe environment for the activities they deliver. The team also come from a range of professional backgrounds including the Arts, Teaching and Occupational Therapy. They bring a level of experience and enthusiasm unique to this work.
