Agencies

We work collaboratively with agencies across Dundee and Angus, to support them and people at their time of need.

Dundee Agencies

Referring Clients

Individuals are free to self-refer for therapeutic support.

Agencies can refer if they wish to support this process by completing the agency referral form

and emailing it to us on [email protected] or by calling us on 01382 221112. If you have the permission of the client, we will then call them back to discuss support.

Reflect

Reflect support individuals through complicated grief, loss and decision making. We support men and women who are facing a pregnancy issue, or who have been affected by the removal of children from their care. We understand that they are often experiencing complicated grief.

Reflect can offer a more flexible listening service for clients who may need more support to attend appointments. This can mean that team members may be able to meet them in an appropriate room, for example an agency building they are familiar with, to remove a barrier to accessing our service. Clients may want to attend with a support worker initially, and this can sometimes be arranged.

Group Work

Alternatives Listening Rooms also run Reflect groups as an intervention for agencies where they have recognised this need. These groups run for 6 weeks and can then be reviewed.

Where we work in partnership with a pre-existing group, we ask that one key worker attends, and we abide by their safeguarding procedures.

Groups and Workshops for Young People

Our youth team deliver creative, reflective and interactive workshops to small groups of young people (aged 12-25) in Dundee. These workshops provide a perfect opportunity for young people to explore their thoughts and opinions in a safe space where they can make up their own minds on different matters. These workshops allow opportunities to develop trusting relationships, increase self-awareness and build resilience.

Our workshops cover themes such as body image, emotional wellbeing, friendships and relationships, hopes and dreams, kindness and compassion, media pressure, and sex and consent. We can also take requests for specific themes for workshops too. Workshops can last up to 2 hours and can be booked as a one-off or a series for longer term groups work.

These workshops are free to book, but we do ask for at least 48 hours notice if you need to cancel. With responsibility to our funders, any session that is cancelled in less than 48hours notice will be charged £100 to cover resources, planning time and staff costs.

If you would like to find out more or book a group, please contact our Lead Youth Support Worker [email protected] by email or calling 07594145618.

Training and Supervision

Alternatives have developed a range of training options based on our experience in supporting individuals around pregnancy choices, abortion, miscarriage and child loss. We deliver in house training to all our team members and also support local agencies in the provision of support.
As an organisation committed to continual learning and development we invest heavily in team training and supervision and are committed to sharing our knowledge and experience with our partners and other similar agencies, hoping in turn to learn from them.

Our training is based on our aims and values, affirming the autonomy of our clients and respecting the dignity, uniqueness and with of all clients in line with the COSCA (Counselling and Psychotherapy Scotland) ethics and code of practice.

Our training programs support our trainees in best practice in;

  • Pregnancy choices support
  • Post abortion care
  • Supporting individuals experiencing pregnancy loss.

Our training seeks to achieve the following outcomes for individuals experiencing support in the city of Dundee and surrounding areas.

  • To create a better understanding of an individual’s experience of miscarriage or abortion
  • To better understand how to recognise early pregnancy loss as a bereavement
  • To develop skills in coming alongside individuals at times of distress
  • To be more knowledgeable about tools and resources that will support you in this area of work
