Pregnancy Loss Support Dundee

We understand that all pregnancy loss can be a devastating and life-changing experience. Unlike other losses we experience there are often few rituals that can help us to remember and process this loss. There can be little understanding of the impact it can have. Often those around us can find it difficult to know what to say or try to make things feel better.

Sometimes there is fear and anxiety afterwards as it feels like life has changed forever.

Our team are here to be alongside you at this distressing time. Finding the courage to connect and talk through what has happened can help as you find your own way through.

Appointments are available daytimes and evenings  and sessions last around 50 minutes. Our service offers telephone, online video or face to face appointments. Our service is free of charge and confidential.

The first step is to arrange an initial appointment. A team member will contact you and arrange this for you. After the initial appointment you will be assigned a team member who will get to know you and work with you throughout your time with us. You might want to make an appointment, or it might feel  easier to call text or email first to find out more.

Text 07599 955231 or contact us here for an appointment

We will get back to you as soon as possible. Our office hours are 9am to 5pm Monday to Friday. Feel free to discuss the dates and time of your appointment as we may be able to see you in the evenings.

There is also lots advice and information on the Miscarriage Association webpage, find the link here.

What about men?

Alternatives Counselling and Listening Rooms recognise that men who have experienced the loss of a pregnancy can often feel as though there is no support available for them. They may feel that they want to be strong for their partners and can keep their own feelings hidden.

Many men in our city have been affected by pregnancy loss, abortion and infertility. Often for men the thought of coming in to talk about how they feel can be overwhelming. The feelings of men can be overlooked.

Many couples struggle to communicate after a pregnancy loss. This is normal. It is very difficult to be able to process feelings together and ‘get it right ‘ for one another. There can be an expectation that you both know how each other feels without even talking. Sometimes the grief and anger feel so overwhelming that you both get stuck.

It can be really helpful to talk things through with someone outside of your situation. You can be honest knowing that what you say is confidential. This is helpful for men who have felt unable to talk about their feelings and may have felt alone.

One to one support with a counsellor is available, face to face, over telephone or online video chat.

Supporting someone after miscarriage

Friends and family may feel unsure about how best to support someone they love after a miscarriage or still birth. It can feel awkward or uncertain if you have not experienced this yourself. If you are feeling sad yourself it may feel as though there is nowhere for you to go with that feeling of grief.

Alternatives Listening Rooms are also here to support you and you can make an appointment to talk things through, sometimes it is helpful to know that what you feel is understood.

The Miscarriage Association have lots of helpful advice and information for friends and family supporting at this time.

Your voice

When I first attended the group I would say I was a broken man with a not very good outlook on life whereas now I have got my mojo back and am overall a more happier person.
